Increase your EQ: Part III

The Joshi Jolt

Now that you’ve become self aware and begun to articulate your internal monologue, it’s time to start thinking about how you can implement this new knowledge into your life to work towards a version of you that you can respect and love. One exercise I went through is a process I developed in a business class in college, which I termed ‘The Joshi Jolt’. Simply put, it’s a way to create accountability in your life, and organize your goals.

In one of my classes, we had to come up with a ‘BHAG’ or Big Hairy Audacious Goal (Built to Last, Collins & Porras). Because I was a nutter who loved too many things and was actively involved in many activities, I had a very difficult time figuring out what I wanted to focus on. Therefore, I started writing to try to figure out what I really wanted to do- Which has become a valuable tool for me over time when I’m feeling ‘stuck’. When I showed my analysis to my professor, he loved it so much he had the whole class go through the exercise. This is a process that may help you unveil your passions and create tangible goals to engage them. Use the template to jot down your answers.
